Weekend round-up

Aeroplane/Image via myspace.com/aeroplanemusicloveWe all love a good "fest" in the Bay Area and this weekend sees the return of San Francisco PopFest. The festival runs from Thursday through Sunday and a complete rundown of events is available here and show tickets and weekend passes are still available. This weekend also brings us San Francisco Carnaval which features the SFCAT Carnaval Festival on Saturday and Sunday plus the Carnaval parade on Sunday. The festival site is on Harrison between 16th & 23rd Streets.

Elsewhere around the Bay this weekend;

Thursday

SF: Get the long weekend started early at Popscene as they welcome Belgium's Aeroplane to 330 Ritch along with DJ Daisy O'Dell. Bottom of The Hill has an all ages show featuring Dance Gavin Dance, A Night In Hollywood, and The Story So Far - doors are at 7.30 & the show starts at 8. At The Independent are performance artists YACHT along with Bobby Birdman and Little Wings.

East Bay: If you don't or can't get tickets to The National at the Fox then you should get yourself down to The New Parish to see singer/songwriter Adam H Stephens along with Honeycomb and Sonny Pete.

Friday

SF: Bottom of The Hill partakes in Popfest with performances from Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, Nodzzz, Antartica Takes It!, and English Singles - this show is all ages. Mighty receives a visit from the UK's Hed Kandi featuring their DJ's Mikey Gallagher and Blackliquid. For those who prefer something a little harder, Detroit techno legend Stacey Pullen can be found at Temple. Hip-hop outfit Little Brother can be found at The Independent supported by Richie Cunning and DJ D Sharp.

East Bay: In Oakland at The New Parish is the Mexican band Fuga! and over in Berkeley the Flight of the Conchords are set to land at the Greek Theatre.

Saturday

SF: We start at Mezzanine as Parallel and Mezzanine present a DJ set from Simian Mobile Disco alongside locals Tenderlions and Ryan Poulsen. Vessel has the Grammy winning deep house producer and DJ King Britt. More dance floor fun can had at Mighty with Blasthaus as they bring residents Sleazemore and Nisus plus a secret special guest all the way from Berlin. Popfest hits Rickshaw Stop with All Girl Summer Fun Band, Still Flyin', Cars Can Be Blue, The Art Museums, and Boat. Over at Bottom of The Hill are Trainwreck (featuring Kyle Gass from Tenacious D), Mavalour, and The Struts.

East Bay: At The Uptown Mog.com and Pirate Cat Radio present the Best of Dig This! with Sister Grizzley, Mermaid Bones, Weekender, and Fire Whiskey. Also in Oakland at The New Parish is The Album Leaf.

Sunday

Close out Carnaval late into the night at Mezzanine at the Carnaval afterparty featuring Alborosie, Bang Data, Xperimento, and Los Rakas plus DJ's, dancers and much more. Also, Popfest returns to Rickshaw Stop this time with Cats On Fire, The Tyde, The Math & Physics Club, My Teenage Stride, and Devon Williams.

Monday

If you still have a little life left in you then get down to Bottom of The Hill at 1pm for some BBQ and to support local bands as they battle it out to be onstage at Live 105's BFD event. The bands featured are Montana 1948 from Saratoga, SF's own Sioux City Kid, Audiodub, Delle Vellum, and Napa's Body or Brain.
