Too good to be Choo?

Jimmy Choo Fragrance ad featuring Quincy Jones and Molly SImsThe word is out all over the web this morning that iconic British accessory design house Jimmy Choo will collaborate with everybody’s favorite cheap and chic shop, H&M , for a collection to debut in 200 stores internationally on November 14, 2009.

 Margaret van de Baush, Creative Advisor for H&M, told reporters, "We adore Jimmy Choo’s shoes and bags. They are glamorous and sexy, and they add instant style to the simplest of outfits. I like the way we have worked with clothes to accessorize the shoes and bags rather than the other way around. This collaboration is particularly exciting because it’s our first shoe designer collection. It’s a joy to be able to offer top end designer shoes and bags of excellent quality to our customers."

In the past H&M has had great success with its designer collaborations such as the Comme des Garçons collection, which sold out in a record 6 minutes at the San Francisco Powell Street H&M store last November. 

 

Critics, however, question whether the stylish pieces fall short of the hype when it comes to quality and wearablity.  One shopper Karen Watkins at the H&M store this morning said, “I waited out, like all night, for Comme des Garçons, and I got a scarf that fell apart in three days, that’s fine for a scarf, but not for shoes, if I want Jimmy Choos I’ll save up for the real thing.”
