Monday style re-cap
Monday, 10AM still wiping the sleep out of my eyes and downing Perrier to make up for the one-or-two too many glasses of wine consumed at the SW (re)launch party last night. Just as I am about to head out and grab myself a quadruple latte with an extra shot (quintuple latte?) my in-box starts lighting up with all the weekend and earlier time zone Fashion news…
Women’s Wear Daily is reporting: Natalie Massenet, founder of Net-A-Porter, and Christopher Bailey, creative Director at Burberry, have become members of an exclusive order. No, not of the Phoenix, they are both Members of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire or “MBES”, for their service to the Fashion Industry in Britain. Who knew QE2 was such a fashion fan?
New York Mag declares: (quoting the Independent) “Young British Designers are flying their freak flags.” With recession comes creativity and rebellion; last time the UK economy was this bad Galliano, Mc Queen, and McCartney emerged. Who will it be this time?
Forbes is chiming in on Summer Style (did I really just cite FORBES as a source?) Retro-colored sunglasses (like those pictured above), platform sandals, rompers, and light-weight summer scarves are all “must haves” this season, prompting the entire SW office to groan and say “Rompers? Now even Forbes is jumping on the rompers bandwagon??? Please God, don’t let us be inflicted with photos of Forbes' most wealthy celebrities in rompers…”
Reuters India is reporting that African Fashion Week kicked off on Friday with shoulder pads, stilettos, and traditional prints.
