Runway recap: CCA Class of 2012 wows the crowd
Impressive effort, is a phrase that is often banded about when describing the work in student shows. Frequently it is used to describe the raw talent, if not 100% polished execution that one associates with a non-professional collection. But for the CCA Class of 2012 Senior Runway Show, which took place in San Francisco on Friday night, impressive effort doesn't begin to cover it. Creative, well edited, and constructed with an attention to detail that was on par with professional work, the collections at the CCA Senior Fashion show were nothing short of spectacular; the best work we've seen locally, student or otherwise, in years.
The wide range in both design point of view, which ranged from romantic and historically inspired to hyper-futurist, and the huge variety in fabrics used to create the looks, made the 13-individual capsule collections thrilling to watch.
By the end of the evening, when Surface Magazine's Gregory Wein announced the winner of the 2012 Surface Magazine internship, it came as no surprise that not one, but two students were selected (Ashley Eva Brock for her Stone, Ocean, and Sky collection above pictured left, and James S. Zormeir for his [+][-] collection pictured below right) as winners. And truly even choosing 2 out of this very talented group of designers as "winners" felt like an impossible task, and one we did not envy the official jury having.
