Fashion feature:Joanna Mastroianni Fall 2012

Even if she wasn't sitting in the front row, and even if she wasn't brought on to the runway during the final walk at Joanna Mastroianni's Fall 2012 collection to take a bow, it still would have been clear that Iris Arpel, and her iconic sense of personal style served as muse for Mastroianni.  From the big, bold almost brooch-like beading on dresses and jackets, to the feathery-details (said to be a favorite of Arpel) on everything, the collection felt like a lovely, loving homage to one of New York's great women of style.

Loaded with ornate details, and rich textures, the pieces also had a true spirit of celebration to them that kept the collection young and fun.

The more "serious" floor length gowns brought drama to the collection and kept the pieces planted firmly in the high-glamour realm.

*Ed note:  Although it feels as though the news has already been reported by nearly every media outlet in the Western Hemisphere, it feels disrespectful to go forward with this recap without mentioning that another great icon of New York style, humanitarian, legendary 95 year old "club kid", and eternal fashionista Zelda Kaplan passed away shortly after collapsing at the Joanna Mastroianni show. Our deepest sympathies go out to Zelda's family and friends.
