Friday night all eyes were on the future of fashion as a selected group of students, whom had been hand-picked by a jury of industry professionals, showed  off their vision to a large and enthusiastic crowd at California College of the Arts during the Senior Fashion Show.

The show which featured 4-5 looks from each of the 18 participating student designers ran the gamut from children's wear to urban street wear to otherworldly avant-garde design.

As each capsule collection to the street level runway, it was clear that each of the featured student designers had an impressively well defined voice, a strong sense of aesthetics, and a skill level that could hold its own in the professional marketplace.

The imagination and raw talent of the designers, and their impressive collections, thrilled the audience who more than once broke into spontaneous cheering as the looks sauntered, strutted, and, in the case of Drew Thorton Kleiner's delicate "Éthéré" collection, danced down the runway.

At the end of the evening, Gregory Wein, Fashion Editor of Surface Magazine  awarded Laura Schmits the Surface Magazine Emerging Talent Award which included a professional internship in New York next Fall, and a photo shoot in the Magazine's annual 'Avant Garde' issue.

I was at the show on Friday, all of the designers did an amazing job, better than a lot of professional shows!
