Beauty round-up: hitting up the health store!
When it comes to finding the most effective beauty products on the market your first instinct may be to head to the nearest department store counter. But did you know there is a wealth of high-quality, hyper affordable (and almost always chemical/cruelty free) products just sitting on the shelves at your local health food store waiting to be discovered?
Now you do! Here's Style Wylde top 5 products we happily hunt down in the aisles of our local health food stores. (Not just for hippies we promise!)
1. Dr. Hauschka Lip Care Stick $13
First recommended to me by a savvy sales girl at my local Pharmaca, when I was in the throws a full on beauty panic thanks to a bad cold that left me with a horror-movie raw nose that was not only red but also hideously peeling that would not be camouflaged with make-up or moisturizer. I was told this little wonder stick could eliminate chapping and peeling within 8 hours if I religiously applied it every 20 minutes. Sounds far fetched right? Here's the thing, it totally worked! Apparently the magic is in the Shea Butter, Jojoba, carrot extract formula that penetrates quickly and is super-emollient. In just one day I went from, the most freakish red, raw, peeling nose you've ever seen to calmed soothed skin that was easily covered with a light dusting of powder. Since that day I always keep multiple sticks around (purse, beauty bag, medicine cabinet etc) it cures chapped lips, nose and even seriously damaged cuticles! Worth every penny.
2. Shikai Borage Dry Skin Therapy Facial Cleanser, $11
A staple of of natural food stores and holistic beauty boutiques the Shikai line has been around since 1970, when Dr. Dennis Sepp began exploring the medicinal benefits of herbs and plants. Today, the company is a serious force in the botanical beauty market, with a reputation for high quality products that won't break the bank. But don't let the all natural, affordable aspects fool you, this stuff is not hippy-dippy it really works! I use it in concert with my Clarisonic Mia2 brush for a gentle make-up removing treatment that won't over strip skin. Over-stripping I've been told by my Derm, is a major component of winter break-outs ( skin gets irritated, makes more oil, then blam! Pimples!)
3. Shinkai Borage Dry Skin Therapy 24 Hour Facial Cream $14
Another gem from Shikai, the Borage Skin Dry Skin Therapy 24 Hour Facial Cream, is one of the few moisturizers that really delivers on the package's promise. Super hydrating, smooth skin stays for a full day after application, even in the windiest climates. Pro tip: Try this under sunscreen when heading to the ski slopes, it will help ward off wind burn all day.
4. Weleda Pomegranate Regenerating Hand Cream $12
Infused with super potent, antioxidant pomegranate seed oil and rich shea butter, this totally non-greasy hand lotion goes on smooth and firms and softens all day. The scent, a bit sour for some noses takes a little getting used to but the results are worth it.
5. Acure Cell Stimulating Facial Mask $17
A true miracle worker for dull winter-worn skin, this baby packs a punch with a combination of Moroccan Argan Oil Stem Cells, Chlorella Pyrenoidosa Extract (often called Chlorella Growth Factor), French green clay and a mash-up of antioxidants from blackberry, rose hips and pomegranate. These ingredients work together to promote healthy cell turnover, elasticity, and an all-over gorgeous glow.
