Beauty trend report: Go Bold
Ok, so the wild hair (by Redken's Paulo Guido ) and unearthly make-up created for the Alexander McQueen Fall/Winter 2012 (pictured above) runway may not be doable in your everyday life, but it really embodied the spirit of the over-the top beauty trend that began in Fall 2012 and continued through the Spring 2013 shows. Not ready to try flying-saucer hair? Never fear, there are plenty of edgy eyes and enticing lip looks to try out that push the beauty boundaries, without crossing over into crazy.
Here are a few of our favorites:
What: Color Shock
Where: Seen at Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2012, Vivienne Tam Spring 2013, Anna Sui Spring 2013, Libertine Spring 2013, Yasutoshi Ezumi Spring 2013
How: As we have previously reported, highly un-natural hair color is all the rage for this season, and seasons to come! Whether it's a single stripe, a defined center part, or a full head of color the easiest, and least commitment required way to get Technicolor dream hair is by using wash-in/wash-out hair chalk. (Our fave THIS ONE by Kevin Murphy) But for the brave at heart looking for a more permanent color fix, "real" dye applied by your colorist in a salon is the only way to get that uber-bright hue without destroying your bathroom tile!
What: Wild wigs and super long extensions
Where: Seen at Geoffrey Mac Fall 2012, Nicholas K Fall 2012, The Blonds Spring 2013, Son Jung Wan Spring 2013, Facestasm Spring 2013
How: This one is a no-brainer, if you can't grow it BUY IT! From there you can twirl it, curl it, braid it and twist it into any shape or size your imagination can dream-up. All over the runways this season we saw hair that defied gravity in both height and volume. Why not have a little fun switching your look up with a few extensions or an all over wig? Possibly not work appropriate for most jobs ( the wigs at least) but certainly fun for a night out.
What: Ludicrous lashes and eyebrow art
Where: A Détacher AW 2012, Falguni and Shane Peacock Fall 2012, Degen Spring 2013, threeASFOUR Spring 2013.
How: Whether you are a splurge on a semi-permanent set, or a die-hard drugstore diva falsie lashes and brow stencils can lend a dramatic and festival feel to your beauty look. For the experienced lash appliers individual lashes give the most "natural" look, but who wants natural? We say go for broke with full strips on both the top and bottom for an awesome Andy Warhol vibe. Bonus points for anyone that can pull off glitter, or extended stencil brows on a normal night out!
