Backstage beauty: Zero + Maria Cornejo Spring 2013
A major force in the New York indie art and fashion scene, Zero + Maria Cornejo is one of those runway shows during the New York season that everybody wants to attend. With much more style street cred than the splashy events that surround the industry bigwigs (i.e. Marc Jacobs or Michael Kors) the Zero+ Maria Cornejo show is definitely one of the week's hottest tickets. So how do you design a beauty look to match such an influential (and potentially high profile) show? You go to the best in the business, Creative Director of Shiseido USA, Dick Page.
Easily one of the best minds in the business, Page knew the Zero + Maria Cornejo Spring 2013 collection, with its architectural lines, subdued color palette and "future primitive" inspiration, needed a light and and bright beauty look to offset all that edgy darkness. To achieve this perfect accent Page and his team created a bold multi-hued eye and soft rose lip that were both modern and lovely.
Here's how they did it: Page and his team started by asking each girl to smile, and then applying Shiseido Luminzing Satin Face color in Soft Beam Gold and a hint of Tea Rose below the apple of the cheek blending downward. This created a healthy, subtle glow without looking overly contoured and harsh. Next, Page moved to the upper cheek and used the same blend along the upper cheek area and under the eye to create an aura of lightness. From there, the team focused on the eyes,. Using a slightly damp fluff liner brush, they applied the pinkest of shades in the Shiseido Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio along the upper lash line and halfway into the crease, creating a bold block of color, while leaving the inner eye completely free of color. The team then blended Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Caviar with the Color-trio pink to create a rich amethyst tone and applied to the end of the upper lash line in a single purposeful 'lump' of color. To complete the eye the team used a bright white pencil by Serge Lutens for a super wide-eyed look. As a final touch, the team gave lips a diffused rosy glow with a coat of Shiseido Lacquer Rouge in Nymph.
