Weekend round-up: Get it while you can

Starting this month we are official in  the long march towards  the New Year when other than the hyper-commercial Not So Silent Night live music tends to dwindle as a large portion of the club going public returns from whence they came .(at least for the  weeks surrounding the holidays)  So we're going to be savoring every last show we can, and we hope you'll do the same.  Get out there and support your local venues and musicians Wyldies before this town becomes (a holiday) ghost town.

This weekend we recommend checking out:

Thursday: It's not often PopScene hosts acts that are inline for the genre for which the long-running club was originally started, but tonight New York's Home Video takes the stage, supported by Los Angeles' Kisses  at 330 Ritch for a Brit-pop-influenced line-up that reminds us of the "good old days" in SOMA. No advance tix for this show. Doors at 10pm. $12 for those 21+, $13 for those 18+.

Still in SOMA, but with an entirely different music vibe,  Slims is hosting iconic rapper Ghostface Killah with NY based Sheek Louch. Tickets are still available for $22 at Slims tickets. Doors at 8PM all ages show.

Friday in the East Bay: If you haven't yet seen the punk/funk/big band extravaganza known as Damon and the Heathens , get thee to Cafe Van Kleef in Oakland's uptown neighborhood STAT.  Nearly impossible to describe without overuse of adjectives , Damon and the Heathens always puts on a rockin' show.  No cover doors open early, drinks are poured super-stiff what more could you ask for Wyldies?

Saturday in SF: Venerable indie rock spot Bottom of the Hill is living up to its eclectic legend with  Hank IVCarlton Melton, Circle Pit, and Outlaw followed by DJ The Duke of Windsor.  $10, Doors at 8  21+ only.
