New Music - VV Brown

Recently rated in Britain as one of those to watch in 2009, the debut album from the singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist shows exactly why she caught the eye of such esteemed admirers as Damon Albarn.

With elements of pop, electro, R’n’B and even elements of soul, Travelling Like The Light is an album that’s great from start to finish but in many different ways. Strong melodies run throughout the album yet the listener is thrown all over the place from one track to another. Quick Fix opens the album with strains of the B52s, followed soon after by the doo-wop inspired Leave and the soulful Back In Time. The album is often fast and furious with tracks like Crying Blood but it remains heavily pop oriented.

Crying Blood was released as a single in the U.K. and was a great prelude to the album, being cited as one of the singles of the year. With such a standard being set from the start some feared for the album but it fails to disappoint with outstanding, catchy songs throughout and excellent production.

Available on Amazon, iTunes and at good record shops, Travelling Like The Light is a great summer album, even if we are coming to the end of it.
