A musical holiday weekend

The holiday weekend sees some of SF's venues taking it easy, but fear not, we've got a list of what's on offer around the Bay this weekend for your pre-BBQ musical enjoyment.

San Francisco

Friday:

If you don't already have tickets then you will need to get down to Mezzanine nice and early to snag one of 200 door tickets for Richie Hawtin, one of the most creative techno DJ's around. Doors are at 9pm and tickets are $30. Also on the DJ front, but this time a little more mellow, NT's very own master at work Louie Vega will be playing a 4 hour set at Mighty as part of a benefit for NextAid. Doors are at 9.

Group DouehSomething very different is on offer at Rickshaw Stop as KFjC presents the Saharawi sounds of Group Doueh along wit the R&B of Nick Waterhouse + The Tarots.

Saturday:

We kick Saturday with some hard-core punk at Slims with Attitude Adjustment supported by Psychosomatic, Zombie Holocaust, and Abrupt. Bottom of the Hill also has something a little harder with Animals and Men, Grass Window, and Rank/Xerox. For something a little milder check out local boy Ty Segall at The Independent along with Audacity, No Boss, and Peter Grimm. As it's the first Saturday of the month, Brit pop once again appears at the Cat Club with Leisure.

East Bay:

Friday:

Get your holiday weekend started early with a no cover show at The Uptown featuring The Mumlers, Poor Bailey, Upside Drown, and Tastyville. Doors open at 6 and the show starts at 9. In Berkeley at Shattuck Down Low are Groove 8, Growwler, and The Avenues. Doors are at 9 and the cover is a steal at $5.

Saturday:

The hard rock strains of L.A. Guns (the Phil Lewis version) will be emanating from The Uptown along with music from The Butlers and Bite. Doors are at 9pm and tickets are $15 ($12 in advance). Over at Stork Club are The Mermen who will be celebrating 15 years of www.kine2b.com.

In Berkeley, 924 Gilman will host the last show by Killing The Dream who'll be supported by The Carrier, All Teeth, and Dcoi. The show is all ages, doors are at 7 with a $12 cover.
