Weekend round-up: locavore listening

It seems like around here we are always preaching the value of supporting local music, and local music venues. But when you live in a region with a history as rich as ours where everything from North America's oldest  punk club and countless iconic folk bands have a home, it's hard to not be just a little evangelical.

So this weekend, while many Americans will be parked on the couch, potato-like staring at a silly game on television, we challenge you San Franciscans to get out there and check out the wide variety of musical offerings around the bay including:

Friday in SF:

It's a rock/soul/post punk/indie mash up at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco with  Of Shape and Sound, Sit Kitty Sit, The Trims and Hotel Island Breakdown. Doors at 8:30 $10

Friday in Oakland:

It's all about local rock at the New Parish as rock quartet New Monsoon share the stage with folk/honky tonk favorites The Jugtown Pirates. Doors at 8pm $10 in advance on ticketfly, $15 at the door.

Saturday in SF:

Rock out with your....out!  You know the saying Wyldies, get on it with local boys Abatis plus special guests all the way from Alabama, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster  at Thee Parkside. Doors at 9PM $12.

Saturday in Berkeley:

It's an east bay-centric punk-ska  palooza at 924 Gilman  featuring local bands: Civil War Rust, The Young idea, The Lucky Eejits, Self inflicted Wounds, and  The Eastern Span. Doors at 7PM, $10 ( plus $2 membership fee for non-members) ALL AGES SHOW

Sunday in SF :

If big twang is your thing, don't miss out on the Hillbilly Hootenanny West Side Review  at The Riptide,  featuring San Francisco's legendary guitarist Jinx Jones (of The Bachelors and the Jinx Jones Trio fame).  Doors at 7:30 FREE SHOW.
