Local music: What to do if you aren't going to Coachella

So you say you aren't going to Coachella, and things may seem just a little quiet and depressing as everyone you know packs up and heads south to Indio this weekend?  Never fear, SW has rounded up the best-bet local live music events taking place this weekend.

While no local show can compete with the massive line up at Coachella,  not to mention the huge crowds, the long line for the porto-potty, the bugs, the mud and the small fortune it takes to fly there (or the 12 hours it takes to drive) there are still plenty of great acts to check out closer to home, no airfare or bugspray required.

Thursday:

British up and comer Elie Goulding will bring her dance beats to Popscene supported by New York's The Knocks. Advance sale tickets for this event are sold out, so line-up early to grab one of the limited at the door spots. Show starts at 9PM.

Friday:

Electronic/ Hip Hop duo Kinetics & One Love bring their innovative sound to The Shattuck Downlow in Berkeley as part of The Morning After Tour featuring Starting Six and Loggy. $10 in advance via eventbrite.

Also on Friday:

Local rockers Nodzz, The Art Museums, and Gun Outfit come together to create a kick-ass indie/low fi/post punk/poprock line-up at Bottom of the Hill in SF, that just might be the cure for your not going to Coachella blues.

Saturday:

Listing influences in Funk, Soul, Afro Beat and Deep Rythyms, Los Angeles based Orgone create a sound that is as infectious as it is multi-layered, check them out with groove act  Quinn Deveaux and the Blue Beat review at  The Independent in San Francisco. Doors at 8:30, Show at 9; $16 in advance online.

Also on Saturday

For those who just can't get over not going to Coachella, DNA Lounge presents: BOOTIE SF: BOOTCHELLA.  Resident DJs Adrian and Mysterious D will be spinning mash-up versions of Coachella Artists all night long with a live performance by local coverstars Smash-Up Derby at 11PM. $8 before 10PM, $15 after. 21 and over only.

Looking ahead to next week:

There is still time to pick up advance tickets for The Go! Team's 4/20 show  at Mezzaine. A handful of advanced tickets remain via eventbrite.
