Punk icons take the stage this month
February may be the shortest month of the year, but looking over the long list of shows and live music events taking off around the Bay you'd never know it. Some of SW's best-bet events for the month include:
Friday 2/4
Punk Rock icons and San Francisco natives The Dead Kennedys are playing Oakland's Metro Opera House for one night only, this Friday. DO NOT miss this chance to see what Punk is really all about ( it ain't Green Day, or Sum41 kiddies), get ticket information, and future concert dates at the band's official home page.
Thursday 2/10
It's been M.I.A. for a while but now the Thursday night legend is back as 1984 returns at its new home at Mighty. A $2 cover all night leaves no real excuse not to be late to work on Friday.
Friday 2/11
Mezzanine and Red Devil Lounge have got together to present long time SF transplant Jack Dangers as his pioneering outfit Meat Beat Manifesto hits the road for their A.C.I.D tour. Their stop at Mezzanine will include support from Not Breathing.
Also on Friday, get your post-punk pop rock on with Tokyo Raid, The Young Rapscallions and Paranoids. $8 doors at 9PM
Wednesday 2/16
Felix Da Housecat's favorite feline friend Miss Kittin is going to be at Vessel in collaberation with Blasthaus and Betsey Johnson.
Thursday 2/17
Italian techno superhero and top remixer Mauro Picotto descents upon Ruby Skye for a midweek techno throwdown.
Friday 2/18
Saturday 2/19
It's rare that a truly groundbreaking band is still together over 30 years after starting their career, but, post-punk pioneers Gang of Four are still alive and kicking. You can catch these pioneers at The Fillmore with tickets available here.
2/22 through 2/27 sees the speedy return of Noisepop 2011 featuring tons of artists playing at venues around the City including The Ferocious Few, Wavves, Ben Gibbard, Kid Koala, Magic Bullets, Peanut Butter Wolf, and The Stone Foxes. A full pass to everything the festival has to offer is $150 here and individual show tickets are available here. Check out the Noisepop website for all the details.
Saturday - 2/26
House music legend and innovator Frankie Knuckles makes a rare visit to SF at Mighty.
