The week ahead in music gets lively

Saturday 1/22

East Bay metal heads always have options for shows, but tonight, the pick of the bunch is at The Uptown with Skinlab, Saint Vernon, Severed Fifth, and MadAtSam.

Sunday 1/23

If you're looking for a way to while away a Sunday evening, you could do no worse than getting down to Bottom of the Hill to check out Jake Mann & The Upper Hand, Grand Lake, and il gato. The show is 21+ (sorry kids) and doors are at 8pm, show at 8.30 with an $8 cover.

 Monday 1/24

On a usually quiet night music options are limited, but, if you're a fan of roots then The Independent should be your destination to check out Midnite with guest Jay Yzer.

Tuesday 1/25

At Rickshaw Stop are three local acts that deserve some local love. Singer-songwriter Sonya Cotton, indie-folk rockers Honeycomb, and the duo Ever Isles. The evening is an all ages show, doors are at 8 and tickets are $10.

Wednesday 1/26

In Oakland at The New Parish is The Roots driving force Black Thought along with DJ J Period as part of J Period's Live Mixtape tour. Advance tickets are available here.

Friday 1/28

Eric Frederic may be responsible for popularizing the now infamous Auto-Tune, but when he was doing it in 2005 it was cutting edge. Now, six years later, his outfit Wallpaper is still going strong and pushing the sound of dance music forward. You can catch them at Slim's with K. FlayThe Dance Party, and a DJ set by Live 105's Menace. The show is all ages 6 and over (is that to stop hipster parents bringing their kids?!) and tickets are $16 in advance.$19 at the door.

In addition, if French, noisy, electro is your thing then get down to the Electric Ball 2011 at Mezzanine as The Toxic Avenger is sure to lay waste to the dance floor. He'll be ably assisted by Autoerotique and Girls N Boomboxes. Advance tickets are just $15 and doors on the night open at 9pm.
