New Releases: Four Tet
Today sees the fifth studio album release by Four Tet with There Is Love In You.
Four Tet is one of the moniker's of Kieran Hebden, a long time British musician with a musical pedigree stretching back over 10 years. Always known for his abstract musical style, this album provides us with a sampling of styles that bounces around from ambient acoustic to some tribal 4/4 beats.
The album slowly opens with Angel Echoes, a track where a haunting cut-up vocal sample floats over simple ambient sounds. Love Cry, by comparison, is a much heavier track with chugging beats and a looped vocal. Sing, the albums other faster paced track takes a lighter approach with some squelchy beats and airy vocals and loops.
The remainder of the album relies on more ambient sounds. Circling has a mellow trance vibe without any discernable beat. Plastic People relies on a simple keyboard loop layered over plenty of percussive elements that sweep in and out as the track progresses. The final track, She Like to Flight, closes out with acoustic guitars and yet more well crafted ambient touches.
Overall, this represents another solid release from Four Tet. With such a variety of sound in one album it's hard to categorize, but for any electronica fan it will provide a great soundtrack to a lazy Sunday afternoon. If you like Burial, Boxcutter, or Ulrich Schnauss then this is definitely worth checking out.
There Is Love In You is available to download from Amie Street or iTunes or from other good music retailers.
