New Releases: OM15
Courtesy of Om RecordsSan Francisco based Om Records has been a driving force in deep house and hip-hop since the company was founded fifteen years ago. Over the years the label has been known for their pioneering compilation albums, almost as much as for their highly talented artist roster. Because of this, it is only fitting that to celebrate their anniversary the label has released a compilation titled OM15.
Split across two cds, OM15 showcases many of the sounds that have become synonymous with the label over the years. Disc one takes us onto the dance floor as J Boogies Together gets things moving with its funk-infused guitars. As you move through the disc Tonight by Opololp takes things a little deeper with its techno driven vocals. Tracks by Radio Slave and Fish Go Deep continue the deep house sound as they happily comingle with the other more vocal oriented tracks.
The second disc takes us into a more eclectic, down tempo arena. It opens with the dubby yet soulful Like a Tree and moves onto Las Jacarandas by Eighty Mile Beach, a stunningly simple and melodic song that, if you like early Zero 7, you will love. Other standouts include the jazzy Busy Bee by The Jazzual Suspects, the bluesy Microphone Hands by Jade Alexis, and the ambient Montezuma's Revenge by Rocket Empire.
This album is a must have for fans of the label and it offers a great introduction to those that may have never encountered their music before. OM15 is available now through Om's online store here, iTunes or other independent record stores.
