New Releases: The Bravery
After over two years since their last album today sees the release of Stir The Blood, the third studio album from The Bravery.
Stir The Blood sees The Bravery heading back to their musical roots and sound that launched them with the release of their self titled first album in 2005. The album blends plenty of synths and guitars together, and as a result, we get an album that has plenty of 80's influence without sounding overly dated.
The opening song, Adored, gives us a perfect introduction as to what we can expect from this album - a relatively quick tempo, lots of energy, and snappy lyrics. Song for Jacob follows but trades the guitars of Adored for some heavy synths. Slow Poison and Hatef--k carry us on with a tempo that seems to increase a little with each song.
We finally catch a break with She's So Bendable, a simple lazy ballad written by drummer Mike Hindert that sounds a little out of place against the back drop of the songs that proceeded it. The song that follows, The Spectator, is the stand out of the album as it perfectly matches guitars, vocals, and keyboards. The rest of the album blasts back to full throttle until we screech to a halt with the finale Sugar Pill, a slow lament with lofty guitars that leans heavily on the early sounds of Interpol.
Stir The Blood is certain to gather up new fans for The Bravery as it's sure to garner lots of radio airplay with its The Killers/She Wants Revenge bent. As 2009 draws to a close it seems apt to see this release appear now as this is an album that encapsulates where music has been and where it seems to be headed.
