Sneak peek: Art Institute's: Daniel Jennings Spring 2014
Mercedes- Benz Fashion Week New York is not just about all the professionals showing off their latest collections, it also presents an opportunity for the cream-of-the-crop student designers to be introduced to the industry through student shows. Almost like a 'debutante ball' for future fashion world kingpins, the student shows give a sneak peek at what tomorrow's industry just may look like.
One such show is the Art Institute of New York City's runway presentation, which will showcase 6 capsule collections by students and recent grads, such as Daniel Jennings.
From the official AI press release:
"Daniel Jennings’ collection, Facades, was inspired by the structural design of skyscrapers, or "The Drapery of Skyscrapers.” The façade hangs from the structural core of the buildings. He translated this curtain wall concept by combining draping and tailoring principles, producing a trompe l'oeil effect that creates dimension and volume without the weight of layers. “A compelling and thoughtful concept is the most important thing to me,” he says.
Daniel was born in Atlanta, GA, grew up in Jacksonville, FL, and studied architecture before embarking on a new journey into the softer side of creation. Daniel wanted to combine the restraint of architecture with the drama of fashion, so he moved to New York City to pursue a career in the fashion industry. Inspired by Viktor and Rolf, Daniel has interned for Perry Ellis, Rafaella Sportswear and most recently for Jason Wu. Currently he is interning as a technical design intern for knitwear manufacturer, RMC USA."
The Art Institute of New York City Show will be held at Lincoln Center on Thursday September 5 at 6pm. For more information about the students presenting, please visit the school's official Mercedes-Benz Fashion week web page.
