Fashion feature: Hisui Fall 2013

image:C.Hope for Style WyldeOne of the aspects of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo that is so thrilling is the frequency of which runway shows and installations incorporate performance art into their presentation. From concert pianists, to full choirs to mechanical 3-dimensional interactive sculptures, the element of artful surprise is almost always present.

Such was the case at the Hisui Fall 2013 presentation, where models stepped onto wood blocks set in front of a mechanical wall, and pulled levers, flipped switches, and turned dials while showing off the collections art-inspired pieces.

Intriguingly elaborate, with layer upon layer of drapes, ruffles, belts, and a myriad of unusual accents the pieces felt more like wearable art than what you'd normally expect to find at an average show.

But Hisui is no average show. In 20 seasons showing in Tokyo, designer Hiroko Ito has proven herself to be a true conceptual artist, drawing ideas of duality, movement, and Japanese folklore to create her own unique point of view. And, that is exactly what made the Fall 2013 collection so enthralling to witness.
