Fashion feature: Degen Spring 2013
Every season a bevy of labels choose to show their collections outside of the official "Fashion Week" schedule, a move that cements their avant-garde or indie status in the eyes of the mainstream industry, and frequently reduces the coverage these labels receives from mainstream glossies. One such label that has done this time and again is Degen, whose Spring 2013 collection was an explosion of color and fun which those mainstream glossies aught to have been frothing over.
From the very first tee with the words "The Shiz Knits" emblazoned across the front, to the final bikini and leggings look it was clear that Degen designer Lindsey Degen had not allowed old-fashioned ideas about what ready to wear is "supposed" to be constrict her creativity; and the result was fantastic.
Knobby knits and well worn jerseys made up the bulk of the collection for neo hippy meets surf bum vibe that was both whimsical and totally believable as future must-have items.
