A familiar name on the underground New York design scene, Katie Gallagher has seen her star rise over the last few seasons at Milk Made Fashion Week. (Milk Studio's answer to the IMG-run Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week) Her shows, which have become the must-have invite for fashion bloggers and indie magazine editors, often feel more like art gallery installations than marketing presentations and are always filled with fashion drama.
Such was the case with the Katie Gallagher FALL 2012 presentation. A dark and foreboding space at The Standard was packed-to-the-gills with bloggers clad in black lace, and seemingly stressed out editors from the major-glossies. The musical score was heavy, and funeral and the models looked out from behind neon chartreuse shadow with a mixture of scorn and sorrow in their eyes.

But for all the "presentation" in the presentation, a few facts about Gallagher's work remain: the tailoring was impeccable, the silhouettes were flattering for a variety of body types, and the over all point-of view of the collection was clear. Furthermore, the individual looks were surprisingly wearable. They were elegant with tons of Victorian meets modern touches and fantastic architectural lines in jackets and peplumed tops.
All and all it was a very strong showing for Fall 2012. Whether or not Gallagher's flair for fashion theater is your personal taste, there were plenty of pieces to love, and there were plenty of pieces that all those 'stressed out editors from the major glossies in attendance will undoubtedly be featuring in their magazine in the months to come.
