Fashion Feature: Michael Kors Fall 2012

"Rugged Elegance" was said to be the  theme behind the  Michael Kors Fall 2012 collection which showed in the Theater at Lincoln Center on Wednesday morning.  Filled with the furs, wooly plaids, and nubby knits one would expect from a 'rugged' sportswear collection, Kors also delivered the glamour big time with a series of hyper-sexy sparkling gowns worthy of the red carpet.

Sophisticated sexiness, was also clearly at the forefront of Kors' mind when he was in design mode, as the collection teased in a variety of ways from woven body suits, to plunging necklines, to sexy school girl mary janes on all the models, the looks enticed without ever getting garish.

The men's pieces also impressed with a sexy outdoorsmen meets military vibe that had just a touch of proper gentleman thrown in.

I'm loving all the orange! His lines are beautiful and wearable. I'm not sure about all the puffiness though. Could be that my shape can't handle more so I'm not drawn to it.

I was really blown away by Kors this season too. I think there is a tendency for "indie" writers to discredit him, mostly because we are as often not given access to his runway show, and honestly I think for some people (self included) dissing the big boys because they diss you is a natural reaction. But this season, as SW did have so much amazing access at the tents, both backstage and on the runways, I was able to really experience why these huge designers are truly icons. The work is unbelievably good, and they are truly the ones who cracked open the international market for American fashion.
