Filled with tongue in cheek graphic elements such as XO patterns on coats and boy's briefs or Tax the Rich More scrawled across tee shirts and skirts, the Libertine Spring 2012 collection was a wild ride that was filled with passion, fun and tons of punk rock spirit.

Continuing on an art-meets-fashion arc Libertine designer Johnson Hartig utilized the hand-screen printing technics we first saw on his Fall 2011 pieces.  This time however, the work had a much bolder, more in-your-face spirit to it, which was perfectly portrayed by the anarchist models-gone-wild* presentation staged for the collection.

 Much less colorful than the Fall collection, this time dealing primarily in black and white with a few reds and blues thrown in for good measure, the Spring Libertine pieces packed plenty of punch due to Hartig's  expert tailoring and  his use of exquisite, and often amusing details on linings of coats, shoes, gloves and bags. These elements, despite their lack of literal color, created so much interest, and energy throughout the collection that they made the Libertine show one of the most vibrant and exciting we've seen this season at Fashion Week.

** note about the Libertine presentation: The images you see here and in the Galleries were shot during a photographer only  run through before guests arrived. Why the private viewing? During the actual show models were encouraged to run-wild, dancing and stomping down the runway doing whatever they felt like at the moment, which created an electrifying, almost frenetic atmosphere that we adored, but were thankful we didn't have to shoot for coverage, as dancing models always look odd on film!
