Fashion Feature:Sally LaPointe Spring 2012

In just three seasons designer Sally LaPointe has gone from Fashion Week 'freshman' showing her first, small and only modestly attended New York show last September, to being a major star who attracts MTV,  the international press corps, and throngs of fans clamoring to get a seat at her Spring 2012 collection which showed last night in Chelsea.

This meteoric rise in popularity which granted, is partly due to Lady Gaga's well publicised wearing of a LaPointe piece, can also be attributed to the designers immense growth in both vision and execution.  No longer one of the just-out-of-school-and-it-shows clan, LaPointe's Spring 2012 collection was filled with mature, thought provoking pieces that explored architectural elements and construction in muted neutrals with surprising pops of chartreuse.

Expert tailoring created stiff shoulders for a hard almost mechanical feel in several of the looks while others were soft and fluid with billowing skirts and long lean lengths. This juxtaposition worked remarkably well, and showed off how truly well thought out, and perfectly edited the collection was. 

As the collection came to a close with the final walk, and each look took a second turn around the gallery space in which the show was staged, a murmur was heard throughout the room, and clearly everyone in attendance was thinking the same thing, if she got this good, this fast there will be no stopping Sally LaPointe's bright future in fashion.
