Dsquared2 'Skate Moss' collection takes heels to new heights

With widespread access via the internet  to runway shows and presentations, it's easy to become jaded where fashion is concerned. Season after season, it seems designers across the globe repeat each other's ideas over and over again with hardly a change in styling or concept.  All of this repetition creates the feeling that originality is dead and that there is nothing new on the style scene.

However, every once in a while the doors are blown open by a design team that creates something so deliciously outlandish and original one can't help but squeal in delight. This was the reaction the SW team had when the look book from DSquared2's Fall 2011 collection SKATE MOSS hit our inboxes.

Obviously inspired by figure skating boots, this newest offering from DSquared2 designers Dean and Dan Caten is such a whimsical departure from the standard flat, stiletto, or platform heeled shoes the industry churns out every season that no one in our office (including the boys!) could deny their lust-worthiness.

From the official press release:

"The Skate Moss collection reinvents the sartorialist boot in aged leather and an ice-breaking skate blade heel. This thigh high, mid-boot and bootie collection provides an element of experimentation for the chic, yet provocative woman of today."

But as one  former figure skater on the SW team explained,  the rubber edging around the 'blade' on the booties, which mimics the guards skaters wear when off-ice, actually offers more stability than one might imagine.  As for styling the Skate Moss into your wardrobe, SW recommends avoiding anything sequined (unless you are going for serious Johnny Weir vibe) and  keeping it simple to allow these fantastical shoes to take the spotlight.

In the San Francisco Bay Area DSquared2 is carried at, Nida Boutique, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Bloomingdales. For more information on the Skate Moss collection please visit the official DSquared2 web home.
