Friday evening a packed house in the tent at California College of  the Arts cheered on the senior class of 2011, as a select group of aspiring fashion designers showed their work. Previously selected by a jury of local fashion industry professionals, the collections represented the top of the class, and the next generation of American fashion designers whom are poised to take the industry by storm.

A well thought-out production which gave the audience a variety of looks to admire  the show began with a mini presentation of Fashioning Functional Gear.  This new addition to the line up is a hybrid between fashion and industrial design and contained some of the most clever pieces of the evening including the convertible coat by Anna Huang pictured left.

However  Surface Magazine Emerging Designer Scholarship winner Patricia Lucia Arroyo's blue zippered dress from her Ardour collection (pictured left) did stand out as a piece that was not only creative, but well executed and could easily be imagined on the backs of well heeled women everywhere.
