Phoenix rising
image: S. Whittle for Style WyldeSpanish designer Toni Francesc has shown beautifully avant-garde collections for the past two seasons at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. Reading about his Fall 2011 collection GARUDÀ before the show, which was said to be based on the mythological tale of the phoenix which rises from the ashes to live again, it appeared to be a continuation of his conceptual trend both in inspiration and production.
But, much like the Phoenix in the story that surprises with its ability to live again, Francesc surprised the audience by creating a far more subtle, and somewhat subdued collection that found its quiet strength in flawless tailoring, exquisite draping, and impeccable details.

Additional pieces that caught our eye included a sharply cut black wool coat with exaggerated collar, an earth toned mini dress with perfect pleating details, and a gray wool tunic top with asymmetrical neckline and buckle detail.
