Month of style: May at a glance

This month sees a  series of events that showcase the future of  fashion and design in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond including: 

 

Thursday May, 6th

VIP preview of The Academy of Art University Spring Fashion Show, features collections from students who will  be taking the style world by storm as the head out into the professional market place in the coming years . Show runs 3pm-4pm.

Friday May 7th

Senior fashion design students will put their frocks on the line, for the 2010 Senior Fashion Design Runway Show at California College of  the Arts. This professionally produced show features a select group of seniors whom have been selected by a jury of industry professionals.  Tickets are $30 general admission show only (advance) and $40 show only at the door, or $100 "Friends of Fashion.

Saturday May 8th

Public Open House and Fashion Show at The Academy of Art. Didn't make it to Thursday's event? Never fear you have a second chance to see students from the Academy show off their design skills.  Open House and prospective student tours 9am-5PM, show promptly at 2:00.  Organizers warn that this very popular event has limited seating, please arrive early to insure entry.

Local labels Beyond the Alley, Invisible Hero Industries, Gergana Mollova,Miss Fortune Designs and Indu Arora's Rock Chiq will be featured during the first annual Beauty Expo at Pigment Cosmetics in San Francisco. Live stylist competition, Reception, product demos and runway show.  6pm-10pm  $5-$10 sliding scale donation at the door.  For more info visit the official website listed above.

Touted as the  "Largest Fashion Show on the West Coast" Charity Fashion Show joins forces with Stanford University for their annual runway and reception. General Admission seats are $35; Premier seats, which guarantee a reserved seat in the first five rows and a gift bag, are $65 each.  

Monday, May 17 

Inspired by the military looks that storm the catwalks  year after year, students from City College and San Francisco Stare University have put together Marching Revolutions, a free Runway show at Horatius in San Francisco's Portreo Hill. Doors at 7 show at 8pm men and women in uniform guaranteed.

Thursday, May 20th

The San Francisco Fashion and Merchants alliance is at again, with the next installment of The Economics of Art, Fashion Mash-up. The focus of this month's panel is Social Media and the Fashion Industry.  6pm at Pigment Cosmetics in SanFrancisco.

Tuesday, May 25th

City College of San Francisco students, whom have already proved their professional-level production skills with last week's The Violet Hour, will strut their stuff again at Belle Epoque, Spring Fashion Show.  Show at 8PM tickets $15 general admission, $10 for students.
