Eclectic line-up of fashion events kick off tonight

 

Model walks in Nanette Lepore's Fall 2010 collection/Image: Image.netAs previously mentioned, this week sees another round of fashion events taking place around the bay, beginning with historical style retrospective, Stylin' Bay Area Rock Fashion, and ending with the student produced off-the-beaten path Marching  Revolution, and The Urban Couture Fashion and Art Expo next week.

Sponsored by the Museum of Performance and Design,  Stylin' takes a look at the music-and trend influenced fashion that has been a huge part of the San Francisco style identity since the early 60's. A panel discussion featuring boutique owners, local designers and thrift shop affiandos plus rare film clips make this event a one of kind evening. 7PM at the Veterans Building, 401 Van Ness, SF.   Admission to this event, which is part of the ongoing exhibition Somethin’s Happening Here: Bay Area Rock ‘n’ Roll 1963-73 is $15 general, $10 with student ID. Wearing flowers in your hair, optional.

If the hippie scene, isn't your thing, and you are more of a modern DIY type, head over to Oakland's Oakopolis Creativity Center at 447 25th Street for  Refashioning:The Basics of Slow Fashion, a unique Do-it-yourself workshop focused on recycling your no-longer-wanted pieces into new looks . No previous sewing experience necessary. Sliding scale $10-$15 donation plus $5 material fee.  workshop space limited contact angel@earthangelart.com  to sign up.

Next we have, this saturday's Charity Fashion Show, producers of which have just released this ad: The Charity Fashion Show, which benefits  KIVA, an organization which offers loans to help those in extreme poverty improve their lives,  will showcase looks from international fashion powerhouses such as Betsey Johnson and Nanette Lepore, and up and coming local designers such as Aiko Designs.  General Admission seats are $35; Premier seats, which guarantee a reserved seat in the first five rows and a gift bag, are $65 each.  

The end of the weekend, does not mean an end to the events, as Monday night's  Marching (R) Evolution storms the stage  Horatius in San Francisco's Portreo Hill. Doors at 7 show at 8pm. 

 

For the model-wannabes, Tuesday's Avant Garde Superchic, at Supperclub offers an interactive fashion evening complete with photoshoots and runway show. Visit the   Supperclub official page listed above for more details.


Working towards next weekend, Thursday's ( May 20) Fashion-Mash-up at Pigment Cosmetics will focus on style and social media, how the ever-changing popularity of Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIN are reshaping the fashion industry. NEXT weekend sees The Urban Couture Fashion and Art Expo kick off in Oakland's Jack London Square. Presented by 7476Design & Diamond Events , the event features runway shows with local designers, DJ Sets, and live art demonstrations. 11am-7pm Pavilion Building ( formerly Barnes and Nobles).  Visit the official site for more details.
