Rainy globes put a damper on star style
Yesterday's downpour which soaked the red carpet at the 2010 Golden Globes, shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone who has been in the state of California over the past week, where newscasters have reminded us on a nightly basis that we are ALL ON STORM WATCH! STORM WATCH WE SAY! THE FIRST BIG SERIES OF STORMS FOR 2010 IS HERE! None the less, the stars (for the most part) seemed to have little resilience to the rain as they cowered under umbrellas and made their complaints known on camera.
As far as fashion, in a night when several frightening trends such as wearing a dress the exact same color as your own skin, and 1980's prom queen reigned, there were a few delightful exceptions including:
Drew Barrymore in Atelier Versace, ( albeit slightly skin-ish) nude tone encrusted with glitter, looked lovely and old-Hollywoodesque. The sparkly poof on the hip may have been one anemone to many but overall the look was grand , and befitting her award winning performance as Little Edie Beale.
Jennifer Garner in Versace, silvery slinky, and very form flattering the super slim Garner looked lovely.
Diane Kruger in Christian Lacroix, Hot pink was a hot mess for many stars last night but Kruger's dress with it's interesting folds and unusual lines coupled with Kruger and boyfriend Joshua Jackson's hilarious caught-on-camera reaction to Ricky Gervais' Mel Gibson joke put the dress on our favorites list.
and for our single most favorite drool-worthy look of the night...
Zoe Saldana in Louis Vuitton. Deep blood red, tons of ruffles folds and semi-hidden bows, could easy be an epic style failure, but superb craftsmenship, construction, and impecable styling, and the perfect young/fun actress to showcase it, caused us to gasp in delight. Bravo Zoe your breath taking beauty almost made us forget the self congratulatory blow-hard acceptance speech given by your boss.
