2010 Release preview, what we're waiting for

The decade that is now done saw the birth of countless new acts that lit up our itunes accounts and got us out to concerts again. As we look forward to the year 2010 we have high hopes for more ground breaking releases. Here are just a few of our most-likely-to love album set to drop in the next 12 months.

1. Massive Attack: Heligoland, scheduled release date: February 9, 2010

For the past five years Massive Attack fans have been waiting with baited breath for the long-rumored yet elusive fifth studio album. Although the album promises a sparser sound than 100th Window it still includes some great vocal cameos that include Blur/Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn. The return of vocalists Martina Topley-Bird and Horace Andy also promises to take us back to the sound of previous Massive Attack albums.

2. Interpol: scheduled release date: spring 2010.  Bursting on to the scene in 2002 with a post punk sound that critics either chastised as a Joy Division clone or harolded as the pallet cleanser for an overly blogbuzzed world, Interpol spanned  the aughts with three amazing albums that brought organic guitar riffs, catchy bass lines and serial killer references back to the forefront of pop where they belong.  While the popularity of the band has grown considerably with the more pop-friendly Our Love to Admire,  The new album is rumored to be a return to the darker sound of Turn on the Bright Lights.

3. LCD Sound System: scheduled release date March 2010

Following the critical success of both their self titled debut and 2006's Sound Of Silver we can expect a lot from LCD's third studio release. We're lead to believe that the albujm is slower than the previous releases but still has plenty of disco influences fused with rock.

4. Gorillaz: Plastic Beach, scheduled release by March 2010.

Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett bring their virtual band back together for the third Gorillaz release. Defined by Damon Albarn as the most pop record he's ever made and featuring artists as varied as Mos Def, De La Soul, Lou Reed, Barry Gibb, and Snoop Dogg to name a few, the album has the potential to be one of the more intriguing releases in 2010.

5. David Byrne and Fatboy Slim: Here Lies Love, scheduled release date: TBA With the reemergence of art rock in the aughts, it only seems fitting that the original genius behind genre should release a new album in the new decade. It will be interesting to hear what Norman Cook and David Byrne have crafted, but with cameos from Tori Amos, Santigold, Florence Welch, Cyndi Lauper and many more, we should expect a lot from this project.
