Pretty gossip: January 2013 edition
A new feature for the new year, Style Wylde's Pretty Gossip features news, announcements, and rumors taking the beauty biz by storm.
Movie magic: If the upcoming James Franco/Michelle Williams Disney epic, The Great and Powerful Oz hasn't yet captured your imagination, then this just might be the thing to get you in the mood for the movie: Nail industry titan, OPI has just announced a limited edition line of lacquers inspired by the film. According to the official press release:
"OPI is very excited to take this fantastical journey with Disney...Inspired by the magic of Oz The Great and Powerful, this SoftShades collection captures the whimsy seen in the film, from glittery shades packed with white, gold and silvery iridescent confetti..."
The limited edition collection, which will hit the shelves in stores nationwide this March includes:
The Lights of Emerald City (pictured left) a white confetti-infused hue
Don't Burst My Bubble a soft white hue
When Monkeys Fly a gold confetti infused hue
Glints of Glinda an iridescent beige hue
Which is witch, a glittering silver hue
and Theadora You, a soft sweet pink hue
Hair raising price hike: According to an official press release from early in the month, "Celebrity hairstylist Ted Gibson will raise the price of his haircut from $950 to $1200, effective January 1, 2013. With a current wait time of one month to eight weeks, Gibson deems the price increase necessary given his increasing popularity and demand for his services. Gibson touts his haircuts as being “a luxurious, 5-star experience” wherein each guest receives a stress relieving treatment with hot towels, shampoo, conditioning treatment, haircut, blow-dry and style all from Gibson himself. With his haircut already considered the most expensive salon haircut in the world, he believes his services are more than worth the price. “I’m making Hollywood accessible to the Upper East Side woman. The woman from NJ. The woman whose husband wants to give her a gift for the holidays,” says Gibson. “Hair – more than the anything else- dictates how a woman feels about who she really is. I strive to make sure that every client who sits in my chair feels pampered and loved. I’m providing her with more than a haircut – it’s an experience.”
Green lighted: Perhaps inspired by the numerous green gowns we saw on the red carpet, and on the runways for Spring 2013, Pantone, the influential color-world company, has declared "Emerald" as the color of the year for 2013. How will this affect you? Expect many cosmetics to put out their own green collections, as according to the Pantone press release "Emerald dramatizes all eye colors as it beautifully enhances green eyes, is compatible to blue eyes, emphasizes the green undertone in hazel eyes and intensifies brown eyes to make them appear deeper. Emerald is also a perfect complement to peaches, pinks, roses, ruby reds and aubergines – offering a variety of lipstick and blush options. For those who want to sparkle and stand out, Emerald is the perfect punctuation point in nail color because of its complementary nature."
Franco files: Paris based fashion designer Nabil Hayari is set on bringing his high-end perfume collection to the United States, namely New York's high end C.O. Bigelow boutique. Based on the concepts of luxury, exclusivity, and glamour the collection of three distinctive, and intense scents (Goldy, Only for Her, and Brodery) is already a big hit among Europe's well-heeled crowd. But how will it play in the infamously scent-phobic States? Only time will tell for sure, but at $145 for 1.5 ounces it may be a tough sell.
