Backstage beauty: Libertine Spring 2013

Stepping backstage at Pier 57 for the Libertine Spring 2013 collection, was like stepping into a Toulouse-Lautrec painting. Low flickering lights gave the scene an almost sepia tone glow and everywhere you looked what appeared to be slightly worn showgirls complete with feather headpieces were sitting in front of lighted mirrors.

The scene was so cinematic it was hard to believe that this was just the prep, the real show was still an hour away, and getting ready for it was serious business for the team of artists from MAC who were in charge of beauty for the Libertine show.

Here's what they did.
Key artists from MAC explained the look as "it's self-done chic. Like the models did it themselves. She used the only thing she had, a black eyeliner, it didn't take more than 5 minutes. Anything more than 5 minutes is contrived and then no one cares." To create this laissez-faire look the artists left Models' faces completely bare save applying MAC Creme Liner in a super inky black along the upper and lower lash roots for texture first and then along the upper lash line for shape. "The shape is extended, almost a 60's cat eye, and then washed-out for a worn look."
