Round-up: The weekend becomes eclectic!

One of the best aspects of living in the San Francisco Bay Area is the wide variety of music represented, and presented on stages at clubs large and small all over the area.  This weekend's calendar exemplifies this variety with Punk, Metal, Jazz, Folk, Surf, and Pop acts all playing.  Here are just a few we recommend checking out:

Starting in the East Bay on Friday: Legendary Jazz guitarist and vocalist Jinx Jones brings his Jazzabilly All Stars to Alameda for a night of jumpin' and jivin' at Speisekammer on Lincoln Avenue. Described by Rockabilly Magazine as "a guitar star of the first magnitude on the San Francisco scene, effortlessly covering the bases from the Buck Owens sound of Bakersfield to the Dick Dale wave of Santa Cruz to the Wes Montgomery sophistication of Cleveland lounges and New York recording  studios" Jones is a not to be missed act for any Rockabilly/Jazz/Swing fan.  8:30-11PM no cover.

and if something a little louder is your style (okay, a lot louder, and harder ) Zeke, California's self-dubbed New Monsters of Rock, bring there chainsaw sound to The Uptown in Oakland for a night of serious thrash supported by Electric Sister and Hammerlock . 9PM door, $12 online via Ticketweb.

The same night over in SF:

If you aren't familiar with the hauntingly otherworldly sound of SOKO, get thee to Bottom of the  Hill , for what SW considers the  weekend's "Best Bet in SF" show; a Punk/Indie/SpokenWord/Alt Countryline-up that features the French/Polish (but now Los Angeles based) singer plus Rob Sokolinski, Vandella, and Slow Moving Lions of the Vegtable World. A relatively recent discovery for us here at SW, SOKO's sound is undeniably fresh, intriguing and one we think the world will be taking notice of on a major scale soon. 8:30 Door, $12.

On Saturday in San Francisco

We recommend heading to the Hemlock Tavern for a night of Norcal Surf Punk/Rock/Indie featuring Hooray for Everything, Awesome (ex-filth)  and The Enlows. Doors at 9:30PM, just $6!

Or, Over in Oakland if something more mainstream is your style, there are still tickets for Scissor Sisters at The Fox.
