Weekend roundup: Retrotastic
From the 60's sound of Cults, to the rockin' blues vibe of the Charles Wheal band this weekend in the SF Bay Area the past is present, and everything old is new again. We recommend checking out these retro-tastic acts.
Wednesday in SF:
The great America Music Hall sees the arrival of Cults, San Diego by way of New York based duo that garnered a huge following with their 60's sound. Rounding out the line-up is Euro-retro pop act Spectrals, and 60's psychedelic pop act Mrs. Magician. Just a few tickets left via the official website for this all-ages show, but undoubtedly some WILL be available out front this evening.
Thursday in SF: With an 80's inspired Euro-synth sound, Housse de Racket has been making major waves on the continent, and the Thursday night they bring their hyper-happy music to Rickshaw Stop as the headliners of this weeks Pop Scene. Also playing at Pop, the UK's Spector. Doors at 9, advance tickets available at SNAG TICKETS.
Friday in Oakland:
Legendary jazz/blues/bluegrass/swing spot Cafe Van Kleef hosts Blues legend in his right, Charles Wheal. Get there early for no cover and the best seats in the house.
Friday in SF: If a rare appearance by a world famous DJ in an intimate venue sounds too good to be true then you're wrong. Vessel have lured Pete Tong from across the pond for a rare appearance. Tickets are still available here and more info on the nights events can be found here.
If you would rather go hear some real music from guys with guitars, then Cafe Du Nord has a local love-fest in store for you. The Soft White Sixties, Major Powers & the Lo-Fi Symphony, Lloyd's Garage, and Abatis all take to the stage. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 on the door and the show starts at 9.
Saturday in SF: For anyone that is into blues/swing/ska or just damn good music, you need to be at Rickshaw Stop to witness Kitty, Daisy, and Lewis. Support on the night will come from Ghost & the City and Yonat and Her Muse. $10 advance tickets are still available (and highly recommended) here. You can also check out the talented trio in the video below.
