Weekend round up
From top 20 tween dreams to post-punk-electro-tropical rockers , the San Francisco Bay Area has a show for every musical taste this weekend including:
Friday:
IN SF: Donny, Jordan, Jonathan, Joey and Danny might not be in the house but there is plenty of Top20 fun at Slims as Cute is What We Aim For, The Bigger Lights, and Down with Webster take the stage. Doors at 7:30, $15. For those looking for something with a little more edge, and less commercial hooks, head to The Hemlock Tavern for a post-punk electro-tropical line up featuring Screaming Females, Winter Ox, and Uzi Rash. Doors at 9:30PM $7. Over at Thee Parkside a Bossa Nova meets Motown party gets underway with People People, Monarques, and Fpod Bpod , Doors at 9PM $7. At Mezzaine possibly the best named electro-disco DJs of all time, KRAAK and SMAKK with Tal M Klein, Mancub, and Motion Potion Doors at 9PM, $10. And finally, at 222 Hyde, special guest host Ian Friday of Tea Party Music spins. Doors at 9pm $10 before 11PM, $15 after.
In The East Bay: Iconic punk band The Buzzcocks head line a sure-to-sell out show supported by Dollyrots and Images at Oakland's The Uptown. Event promoters will release a limited number of tickets when the box office opens today- so get down there NOW if you want to get tickets . While those looking for something slightly more mellow(ok, a lot more mellow) Berkeley's Freight and Salvage Coffeehouse hosts Tito Y Su Son de Cuba, for a night of high-energy Cuban jazz a la Buena Vista Social Club. 8PM, Tickets $19.50 at the door, or purchase online here.
Saturday:
IN SF: Back to Bottom of the Hill for an indie/experimental/metal/comedy show featuring Captured! By Robots, The Don'ts and Bobby Joe Ebola & The Children MacNuggits Doors at 8:30 $12. For those longing for a darker musical interlude, head to Milk in the Haight for a night of gothic/darkwave/ with Veil Veil Vanish, Bleasure Grave, Deathday Party, and Sleeping Desires. Doors at 9PM, $7 Presented by Shutter. In that same neighborhood, for those wanting to keep things light and lively, The Dodos head line the 5th annual D.A. Taylor Charitable Foundation benefit at The Independent. 8PM General admission tickets $20, VIP $4o.
In the East Bay:
Mardi Gras madness and Burlesque insanity take over Cafe Van Kleef with Blue Bone Express and Hot Pink Feathers. At Oakland's Stork Club punk from down under X (Australia) rocks it out with The A Frames, Little Queenie and Angora Debs $10.
