Japan Fashion Week carries on, on the web
The devastating earthquake and tsunami that shook Northern Japan last month caused widespread loss both of human life and of economic stability for many of the countries 120+million citizens, including the many young, talented designers for whom Japan Fashion Week Fall 2011 was to be a career changing event. One that would give them the essential opportunity to receive exposure for their work via the press and hopefully develop their businesses throughout new markets all over the world.
Obviously, in light of the earthquake and the continual aftershocks and concerns about radiation danger in the region, Japan Fashion Week which was originally scheduled to kick off just days after the earthquake, had to be canceled. This cancellation left the economic future for these young designers uncertain and their collections uncovered.
But now, thanks to the quick work by Japan Fashion Week organizers, and that miracle we call the world wide web, fashion fans and journalists can see the collections that should have shown via Japan Fashion Week Online. Simply click on the banner above (we promise it's not an ad, and you don't need to pay anything) and take a gander at the exquisite work from a group of designers who are poised to create a major impact on the international style scene.
While you are reviewing the collections, be sure not to miss our favorites: Sweet girly looks with a serious dose of fetish at Motonario Ono, day-glow furs and giant knit tops at Naoshi Sawayanagi and menswear with a globe-trotting vibe at Yoshio Kubo.
