Over the past few years, San Francisco's de Young Museum has hosted a series of knock-out fashion focused exhibitions featuring work from some of the industry's most illustrious designers. From Dame Vivienne Westwood, to Yves Saint Laurent, to Cristóbal Balenciaga, the beloved museum has become the epicenter for Fashion history in the bay area.
In March the de Young will continue on this stylish trend, with The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier from the sidewalk to the catwalk, an amazing look at the life and work of fashion's "enfant terrible."
According to the official pre-exhibit notes the exhibition will be "A multimedia journey through Gaultier's career representing collections from 1976 to the present with more than 130 ready-to-wear and haute couture ensembles as well as sketches, stage costumes, and excerpts from runway shows concerts, dance performances and televised interviews."
The festivities for the collection get started with a members only preview and Grand Fete on Friday March 23. Tickets for this private event are free to members but advance reservations are required. Tickets for the grand fete are $250 for members of the museum, $300 for non-members.
On March 24th, famed journalist Suzy Menkes hosts an "Intimate conversation with Jean Paul Gaultier" ( Yes! He'll be there!) Advance ticket purchase is required, tickets go on sale March 1. For more info visit the official de Young site.
The exhibit runs March 24-August 19th.
