San Franciscans come out in style for J-POP
This year's J-Pop Summit Festival was bigger, and better than ever, with locally based restaurants, boutiques, and even bands coming together with the Japantown Merchants Association to celebrate the rich Japanese heritage in the San Francisco Bay Area.
As in year's past, the sidewalks at J-POP rivaled the most avant-garde runways in New York, Tokyo, or anywhere in the world with a plethora of colorful Gothic Lolita fashion fans and cosplay characters. However, this year a growing knowledge of the more mainstream Japanese trends, including the Shibuya style epitomized by festival participant Liz Lisa, was also seen.
Fashion was definitely not just a female sport this year either, as the local boys held their own with an array of dapper looks that varied from Edwardian, to 80's and everything in between.
