We are obsessed with: The Hour
While everyone in America seems to have fallen under the spell of a certain "Abbey", the BBC has been busy producing another, even more intoxicating, series called The Hour. A visual feast, often shot in hyper saturated Technicolor, and lavishly designed with iconic mid century modern costumes and sets, The Hour follows the crew of a mid-50's London based current affairs show as they navigate through major social upheaval and political unrest in England and throughout the world.
The show is exquisitely acted by a cast that includes Ben Whishaw, Romola Girai, Dominic West, Oona Chaplin (granddaughter of Charlie), Anna Chancellor, and in Season 2 both Peter Capaldi and Hannah Tointon.
Ok, enough with the critical review, here's what you really need to know about The Hour.
It's sexy: Not only is The Hour filled with beautiful people in glamorous clothing, there is also a fair amount of sexiness to the story lines, which are packed with power, corruption, and lies. Add a healthy dose of star-crossed lovers and unrequited suffering and you have a potent cocktail of television deliciousness. ( Not to mention beautiful actors in even more beautiful clothes, wait did I say that already)
It's exciting: Plot twists and turns make The Hour super unpredictable and super likely to have you staying up all night watching episode after episode on demand.
It's nominated for a Golden Globe: The Hollywood Foreign Press knows what's up, and nominated The Hour in the best "Movie or Miniseries" category.
and sadly... it's rumored to be in danger as it seems with all great television shows these days, rumor has it that the BBC is thinking about NOT bringing The Hour back for a season three. Without spoiling anything, I can't tell you how AWFUL this would be in light of the JAW DROPPINGLY SHOCKING ENDING to Season 2. Seriously, BBC fight the good fight, bring back the Hour for a season3!
