Porchlight, curry and Michael Jackson in SF this weekend
Much like the incredibly diverse live-music line-up around the bay, this weekend also hosts a bevy of one-of-a-kind events including:
Friday:
After hours rendez-vous in the Public Library? No this isn't a scene from Party Girl, it's Porchlight Allstars, the late-night library party hosted by local literati Beth Lisick and Arline Kettle featuring stories of the city performances by rocker Frank Portman ( Dr. Frank of the Mr. T Experience), Kelly Beardsley and many more iconic San Franciscans. What more could you want on your Friday night, oh yeah there's a hosted bar and proceeds from the event go towards supporting the public Library. 10pm-Midnight $50 tickets available on Brown Paper Tickets.
Saturday:
Things get spicy in the mission at Tomo's Kick Ass Japanese Curry Spectacular at Gravel and Gold. Star chef Tomo will be serving up three kinds of Japanese Curry( Veg, Chicken and super secret Beef) at the mission art collective. $5 donation BYOB 6PM. Gravel and Gold for more info.
In Japan Town, as part of the closing weekend of the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival, Flower and Man, The three day Ikebana Exhibit featuring Master Kihachiro Nishiura in the Superfrog Gallery, opens Saturday. Special reception for Master Nishiura on the will allow attendees to witness works of art as they are created.
Saturday Night:
Access your inner Bollywood star at Nonstop Bhangra at The Rickshaw Stop. Live performances, lessons, desi beats and the most energetic crowd you will see in San Francisco make this event a must check out. 9pm $15 Rickshawstop for advance tickets.
Sunday:
Hardcore Jackson fans be damned, The Dark Room presents Bad Movie Night: Michael Jackson's Moonwalker. Free popcorn, and heckling galore all for $5. 8pm. The Dark Room for more info.
