My best friend is getting married in December and has decided on a destination wedding in Fiji.  She asked me to be her maid of honor, and although I want to be there for her, I can't afford the trip. I tried to explain that I haven't had a raise or bonus in the last 3 years at my job, and I can't even afford a vacation for myself, much less one that is solely to attend a wedding, but she won't listen.  She tells me a true friend would be there for her, and if I can't then maybe I am not a friend at all.  How do I reason with her? Help.
