Fashion feature: Gut's Dynamite Cabarets Fall 2013

image:C.Hope for Style WyldeTo be honest, as a foreigner who had no previous knowledge of the label, there was an automatic draw to any designer operating under the name Gut's Dynamite Cabarets! How could anyone not be intrigued by that name? And as it turned out, the pre-show intrigue was justified as the Fall 2013 collection was one of the most sparkly, and downright saucy of the week.

Before we get to the "saucy" aspects of the show, let's talk fashion. Channeling a fun, retro-70's, thrift-store chic vibe, the collection was the kind the young creative hip-set from Brooklyn to Oakland would go nuts for. Animal prints, brightly colored furs, leather moto jackets and miles and miles of vintage sequins all made an appearance under the spotlights of the runway.

Boldly hued, and definitely brash in attitude the pieces were perfect for the street style star in all of us.

Now on to the other aspect of the show! A little research, which amounted to asking my favorite English speaking Japanese fashion expert, revealed that Gut's Dynamite Cabarets was born out of the underground Tokyo club/drag performer scene. Apparently in years past when the label was lesser known, the shows themselves were a club scene event with the audience frequently showing up in full performance regalia. (for New Yorkers out there, it sounded as if it was a lot like the runway fashion party we call a show by The Blonds!)

In recent years, Gut's Dynamite Cabarets, has according to my source, become a little more mainstream, but a lot of that old-school party vibe was still present as the show, which contained a number of celebrities ( Actresses, comedians, drag performers and even a pair of World Wrestling Champions) walking in the show, and a mid-collection dance performance. All of which made it an absolutely entertaining spectacle, even for an uninformed foreigner like myself.
