Fashion feature: Bibhu Mohapatra Fall 2013
image:C.Hope for Style WyldeGlamorous gowns that are red-carpet perfect are no new thing to Bibhu Mohapatra. The designer has been making a name for himself at award shows and star studded galas for many seasons. But for Fall 2013, Mohapatra's talents really sparkled not only in the formal wear arena but also with a variety of edgy-fashion forward day looks that pushed the boundaries of what we've come to expect from this rising star.

Inspired by Man Ray’s photographs of muses Kiki du Montparnasse and Lee Miller, Mohapatra produced an electrifying, hyper-arty collection that balanced graphic black and white motifs with architectural details such as basket-weave hats, structured jackets and Dada-ist inspired shoes.

Pops of pumpkin, eggplant, mustard, teal and deep navy brought additional energy to the collection while textural elements such as fur, leather, velvet and beading gave the pieces an element of surprise.

About mid-way through the collection, Mohapatra began evolving into his knock-out gowns, all of which played with the Man Ray inspiration and elevated it to high-Hollywood glamour. By the time the collection closed, with a breath-taking molten silver gown, we felt certain we will be seeing several of these Bibhu Mohapatra pieces on the Oscar red carpet, AND at the after parties.
