Red Carpet preview: Golden Globes 2013

Bibhu Mohapatra Spring 2013/Image:C.Hope for Style WyldeOften referred to as "Hollywood's biggest party" the Golden Globe awards will be given an extra punch of sass this season when co-hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler take to the stage. Both women are supremely talented writers and comedians with multiple nominations under their belts, so there's no doubt the show will be a good one. So the only question remains what will everyone be wearing? Here are guesses, and wishful thinking hopes for what we expect to see on the red carpet.

We wish they'd wear:

Bibhu Mohapatra Spring 2013

With so many unusual, and ornately beautiful gowns in one collection, it's hard to imagine Hollywood's brightest ( and yes, stylistically BOLDEST) stars wouldn't be looking towards Mohapatra for the big night. But, somehow the daring designer never seems to get the props he deserves, especially when it comes to the red carpet. Two of our favorite, and Globe worthy gowns  from the collection include: the heavily detailed black and green gown (pictured left) and the shimmering white and silver gown (pictured  below right).

Brightly Brazilian with tons of tropical touches the Farah Angsana Spring 2013 collection had tons to choose from. We'd love to see the super talented designer get her gowns on the carpet this season.

What we think they'll wear:

Badgley Mischka Spring 2013

Badgley Mischka has been a force in formal wear since the early 1990s, be it bridal or red carpet couture. And for good reason, the pair consistently turns out  frothy and hyper feminine gowns fit for a princess, attracting the biggest stars to their collection season after season. So while we don't blame actresses for defaulting to the go-to brand we'd love to see some new looks take a twirl for the cameras on Sunday.

Calvin Klein Spring 2013

Iconic American fashion powerhouse Calvin Klein always wins a few hearts with modern, frou-frou free gowns that appeal to the chic and sporty style fans.  We love Calvin Klein for just about any event, but on the red carpet we'd love to see a little more glam and a little less utilitarian.

Zac Posen Spring 2013

Posen's fans are numerous, and when the host herself (co-host Tina Fey) has worn your work year after year there's a certain amount of fashion inertia that keeps a brand front and center at an awards show. And while we understand Posen's following, due to his fantastic architectural lines and figure flattering silhouettes, we'd love to see more emerging designers get a chance to shine.

What we wish and think they'll wear:

Any fashion writer in attendance at the the New York collections would be hard pressed to come up with a single collection that had more red carpet ready gowns than Reem Acra Spring 2013. And truly, with a rising popularity (and a few past seasons of award show red carpet successes under her belt)  Reem Acra easily makes it on to both our what we hope they'll wear, and what we think they'll wear lists.
