Fall 2011 trend report: Shine on

It may have been caused by economic instability or simply a general sense of apathy running throughout the industry, but whatever the reasons in the past the Fall collections have lacked any sense of festivity. Whether it was wool dresses in melancholy hues or oppressive head-to toe velvets that ruled the runways, optimism and good old fashion glitter has been noticeably missing.

Thankfully for Fall 2011 designers are shaking off the somber shackles and opting for opulence with beading, sequins and even a little lamé cropping up across the board from avant garde labels to the biggest brands.

And while this sparkling trend may feel a little too 'studio 54' at first for most fashion followers, it can be easily 'de-discoed' and given a modern twist by layering under other statement pieces as  seen at Anna Sui (pictured above right) and Son Jung Wan.( above left)  Or, for those ready to embrace their inner disco darling both Norman Ambrose (pictured left) and Jenny Packham (pictured  right) offered bodycon head-to-toe sequin looks that were downright Dreamgirl worthy.

I'm coveting that silver romper by Son Jung Wan. Wouldn't that look perfect for crawling in the photog pit?
