Emerging designer spotlight: A DÉTACHER Spring 2011
One of the most exciting elements of New York Fashion Week is discovering creative new labels that are really shaping the future of fashion, but may still be unknown to those of us based on the West Coast.
One such label, A Détacher, which is the creation of designer Mona Kowalska and sold exclusively in her New York boutique, seemed completely immune to the staid, playing-it-safe vibe that plagued many of the more mainstream shows, and felt like a fantastic experiment in color, and construction while remaining intrinsically luxurious and ultimately high-fashion.
Throughout the collection asymmetrical elements such as billowing sleeves were paired with prim skirts and leather harness-like accessories for an overall effect that was both modest and overtly sexy; an almost unsettling contradiction that was wonderfully intriguing and left us wanting to head down to Kowalska's boutique immediately following the show.
As the show came to a close, it was clear that the SW team were not the only ones smitten by the inventive A Détacher Spring 2011 Collection as the small crowd which included an enthralled-looking Maggie Gyllenhaal, burst into enthusiastic applause and cheers for the designer and her work.
In the San Francisco Bay Area A Détacher can be found at Anica Boutique. For more information on the label, including where to find the collection in your area, visit the official home page, and for more images from the Spring 2011 collection, check out The Style Wylde Galleries.
