Sneak Peek: Daniel Vosovic Spring 2011
A true product of New York City, Daniel Vosovic defined his view point with a fresh, edgy and throughly modern collection for his solo debut at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week last February, for which he received wide-spread editorial kudos.
This season, he is tackling the daunting task of following up rave-reviews with an equally successful collection, something even well-seasoned designers find frightening.
Earlier this week, as he was preparing for his September 9th show at Exit Art Gallery, Daniel was kind enough to answer a few questions for SW regarding his inspirations for Spring 2011.
SW: For Fall 2010 we saw beautiful sculpted and draped pieces from you, which received rave reviews, can we expect a continuation on this silhouette for Spring 2011?
DV: There's always some continuity from season to season, but the SS11 collection is a bit... earthier... almost a little gritty. I've continued my exploration with digital printing, embroideries and "structural draping" but as always, things are interpreted in new and exciting ways. I love a woman in an easy, yet statement-making dress in the summertime, something that reads completely cool without trying, and that's where I put a lot of my focus this season. However, I of course couldn't leave my woman without a great pant and jacket for the cooler months!
SW: What do you see as the must-have color pallet for Spring 2011?
DV: Any color that makes your hair, skin and self look the most vibrant and beautiful... fashion should always play up those first and foremost.
SW: What additional inspirations are behind the new collection?
DV: Elizabeth Taylor being bat-shit crazy circa "Whose Afraid of Virginia Wolfe"... how can someone not be inspired by that. Everything started with her.
